Soon you'll be able to check her teeth for age too, keep sleuthing. We'll need as many facts as poss, no promises but at least we're all trying to find out her history. Keep up the news about Mia, bet she'll be glad to have a good home dear soul.

I agree, have Mia's teeth checked by a vet, horse dentist or other competant person for age, and see what they say.
Keep trying with WHSA stud book keeper, she might have some information, though I suspect Grantlely is being truthful when he says he didn't buy a taffy stallion from a horse sale in Vic..it seems a strange thing for a Queenslander to do.
Just out of curiosity, who is Mia in foal to? And what colour registry would take her?

Hi Jilba Mia isn't in foal as I chose to have her come home empty. She had a silver (taffy) buckskin for the lady that leased her. Mia can be registered with Dilutes Australia as a Silver (Taffy) as she's a silver bay. I just send away hair samples for testing which doesn't cost that much to prove she carries one or two copies of the silver gene. I'm not going to give up with the studbook keeper (I just felt disappointed), I guess I'll just have to wait a few more weeks and then ring again if I've heard nothing. Hehe I thought Grantley was telling the truth, just his mother must have got her wires crossed when she told me that. Shame it didn't pan out as I felt I was getting closer to Mia's background. On a good note, Mia is now in Qld (Jimboomba) at a friend's house. She arrived today and I will likely be picking her up Saturday. I can't wait

Hi Simone Its been a journey reading your posts, good luck with finding Mia's parentage. Do keep trying with Liz (studbook keeper) she is a very busy lady with 2 very young children but I am sure you have not been forgotten. Cheers Deborah

Good one, thanks CheekyPrincess! Lovely to hear from you. Positive is the way to be. Walers need all the friends they can get eh. No goodies or baddies here - we're not into that. Just a lovely story and following it through. She's a bonny mare and will be so happy to have someone to love (Walers and Part Breds do that so well, don't they!) hey Simone - you'll find if she's got Waler blood, they bond to one human like a one man dog. If they don't like you, forget it, but as you said you "clicked" with her - I think there's a lifetime of devotion coming up. Real one-man horses. They'll go the extra mile every time, and trust you like nothing on earth, it's a great feeling.

That could explain why the lady that leased her, just seemed to clash with her yet her friend didn't. My friend from Jimboomba said she's a doll. I did feel like we clicked and I think we'll have a good relationship. Mia just came across as friendly and confident without being pushy. Well I'm picking her up tomorrow. Lol can you believe it rain is predicted tomorrow I just hope not too much until we're home safe and sound.

Well Mia floated like a dream. She needed a make over as her long mane was full of dreads and her hooves weren't trimmed often as they should have been. I gave her a bath the next day to untangle her mane and tail. She wasn't too fussed on the water but within minutes, a bit of patience and soothing words and she allowed me to wash all the conditioner out. She now has a lovely, long tangle free mane and tail. I'll do her hooves tomorrow. We just wanted to give the girl a few days settling in before doing too much with her. My 3 year old gelding Buddy and Mia are now rather smitten with each other and you'd think she'd been here for a lot longer. I'm very impressed with how she settled in so quickly. I'll get pics later today

Hi to those reading this.
Here are some new pics. We took them yesterday. Mia has settled in really well.
Oh I made a big mistake too, Burt and Barbara's stallion didn't come from Newhaven. He came from Codillo sp? Downs. I think I need to sit down with a note pad in future as I end up a tad confused sometimes (or perhaps a rum and coke could help instead lol).

Good one Simone, Everyone's been busy with ATW (all thing waler) which is over now, but all getting home etc. She looks great and seems to be in top condition, especially considering the miles to get to your home. Hope all is going ok! Have you got rain? We've had heaps and now already have bushfires, tons so growth. Hope you have some grass, I'm lucky, mine are out on heaps, but it was a battle before that buying it! Are you thinking of breeding from her? Being broken, she'd be a good riding horse I would think - enjoy. cheers, a very old mare, J

Hello Old Mare Mia arrived in good weight. I think she may have lost a little weight which would have been good for the well rounded Miss Mia's mane was full of knots which was no drama but her feet looked like they'd never been trimmed since the lady leased her. Oh well within a few days we'd given her a quick bath and deknotted her mane, tail. and trimmed her hooves. With regular trims her hooves will come good. We had rain the following day after her arrival home but it was very little and more of an overcast day. We're still in drought unfortunately but in the scheme of things Mia isn't much more to feed. We're really happy to have her here. She's settled in so well and has a friendly personality

Had a little rain early this morning. It wasn't a lot but at least it was a drizzle which is certainly better than nothing I meant to add to my above post, that I can understand it's a busy time. I'm going to wait until after Christmas to apply to register Mia etc. It's a busy time for us and expensive. There is no rush, the main thing is Mia's here and settled in well If I don't get on until after Christmas I just wanted to wish those reading this post a merry Christmas Cheers Simone

Gosh what a shame she isn't closer to Canberaa - I know a stallion that would go brilliantly with her

Hehe no harm in showing a pic of the stallion? I wouldn't be surprised if it's one that has already caught my eye
