No-one knows how it got here, also strangely, it's in the far north west corner (Smithton way), - which is away from the main drags etc.
They do a lot of polocrosse there though, and the usual pacers, racers etc - but, who knows. Far away from me at present. Touch head, oops wood!
Yes everyone has been paranoid about travel here too, even before it got here - people are doing their own horse's feet etc rather than even have the farrier around!
The Govt would look pretty silly if it was a really dangerous epidemic - they should be using it as a learning exercise and getting it tapped fast. Oh well. There's all that matter of an election....grr

What do you mean by "ONLY" Australian breed?

Wouldn't the A.Stock Horse and brumby be also an Australian breed?

ONLY RARE AUSSIE BREED ~ I'd agree there!!

Welcome back old mare, missed ya

All three of my horses have had E I, my 2yr old Anglo Arab has had it for approximately 4weeks, my 18mth old Palouse pony had it for 4days, (no more signs), my Waler mare had it for approximately 2 weeks, (no more signs). Although the three had the cough and runny nose they never went off their food, so I knew they were OK, they still had a few gallops around the paddock and my Waler still had her rolls in the dam.
I never gave any medications, just a lot of TLC, and disinfected everything, ( oh Yes! and Prayed alot).
Cheers! all

A.S.H.S. have purebred Quarterhorses, Thoroughbreds, Arabians, even European Warmbloods dual registered as Ausrealian Stock Horses.
The Brumby " A feral horse in Australia ". Maybe one of the above that went bush last year ?
So I guess it would depend on the definition of "Australian Breed".
They ask little, give all.

ok , yes, point well taken!!! I see now how that with the Walers, it is imperative that no new blood is / was introduced to keep and maintain the "old true traditional bloodlines and types".

thanks for that!!

Chaser team in quarantine stunt

AAAAAP

The Chaser team is embroiled in another controversy after they infiltrated the AQIS Equine Quarantine Centre at Eastern Creek this morning

According to a source inside the Quarantine Centre, the team entered the secure compound in a convoy of ridden horses and a horse drawn carriage.

“It looked like a wagon train from the movies, like in a Western. All that was missing was some Indians charging over the hilltop with bows and arrows drawn.”

“The guards at the gate barely looked at them, they just stopped and sprayed their riding boots and the horse’s feet and then waved them through”

“The boys on the horses were all dressed like jockeys in their racing gear, silks and all, and the guards didn’t even flinch.”

“One of the guards even asked [Chaser Executive Producer] Julian Morrow if he had a tip for the Melbourne Cup.”

“That was pretty amazing because Morrow looks about as natural on a horse as a fat kid in a fruit shop.”

“At the second checkpoint a security guard tried to stop the boys going in on their horses but they just told him it was ok because they were riding Thoroughbred racehorse mares and that they were there to show the recently imported Thoroughbred stallion Goodlap Dancer a good time.”

“The guard apologised and let them through.”

Another source said that it was only when Chaser member Chas Licciardello stepped out of the carriage dressed in a traditional riding coat, breeches, boots and riding helmet that quarantine officials took action.

“Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until the person stepped out of the carriage in recreational riding clothes, then all hell broke loose, alarms went nuts and guys with guns popped out of nowhere.”

The stunt is a further embarrassment for AQIS and the Australian Government after the release of Equine Influenza from the site in August, which has shut down racing in NSW and Queensland and resulted in the loss of billions of dollars to the industry.

Federal Minister for Agriculture Peter McGauran has defended the quarantine station staff, saying that “Given the amount of traffic going in and out, it is unreasonable to expect them to thoroughly check every person entering and exiting the compound.”

“I must congratulate staff for their vigilance in catching the highly dangerous recreational horse rider before he was able to any serious damage to the integrity of our nation’s bio-security. I assure you that this man will well and truly feel the full weight of the book when it is thrown at him.”

In September the Chaser team embarrassed NSW Police when they were able to penetrate the heavily guarded APEC security perimeter with a convoy of limousines bearing Canadian flags. Several members of the group remain on conditional bail as a result of that stunt.

AQIS staff allowed the Thoroughbred mares to stay with Goodlap Dancer. All of the animals will be released from quarantine by the weekend.

Couldn't help it.... too funny to not post!!!

Hi all, been bush a bit.
Some parts of the forum cannot be loaded to me (who knows why!!??)....a bug from the ether...... no doubt it will get bored and bug off!!...
My dear Mary-mary, my sympathies utterly, at least it's a flu - as said previously, too bad if it was something worse. Well done to nurse your hosses.
Top job. Some faols have been lost apparently. so my thoughts with you, it's no-one's fault and the horses don't vote. (wouldn't matter - we do and what do we get - a bloody politician!)
Harcourt, yes Gatekeeper got it right (apart from the fact He's God) , all horses are horses. Some are brumbies, some are ASH (Aust Stock Horse), but they are a mixed bag, bless em.
Ours are a pretty straight and pure line - as you know, others may love or hate us, however we do try to see them right - they breed true, as they did for yonks before we got them -----the real bones of a breed, and glad you get it!
Keep truckin (or horsin) all, have had a tough time here but all is going level now (horse wise), take care, see ya round the traps
oops didn't get smileys as I went to the quick thing but hey smiles!!!!!!!

G'day old mare, you said,( too bad if it was something worse), what else is out there with the same symptoms as the flu that we don't know about? I think that while your animals are still eating, there is no need for concern. Hey! they're not that sick if they can still fill their bellies.
Thanks for the vote of confidence anyway.
Cheers!
